I wanted to be a part of the rest of my nephew's last moments - possible, but not comfortably. How does a well known, rated "one of the best" hospitals in Madison, not have any extra private family rooms for families to use to sleepover, or COTS. Seriously?
Doctors and nurse in the Children's Hospital are Superb, the Admin/Social Workers are upity know it all's that jump to conclusions and lay guilt trips on you if they don't agree with your parenting or can't be in the Hospital every minute of your child's stay. Sensitivity and bed side manner -3.
The building is easy to spot as you come up the hill on Highland Ave; it will be to your right. Valet parking is available at the first drive, or continue around to the parking garage. Everyone working here is nice, friendly. They know they are dealing with children and their families and seem to know that if you are there it isn't really where you want to be, and they do their best to help you. My daughter has had to stay there on two occasions, and each time the staff has been fantastic. Rooms, hallways ,everything is decorated nicely. It doesn't feel like a hospital. Food is very good. Hospitals are scary places for children especially and this one does everything possible to put that fear at ease for the kids and their families.
When the unthinkable happens and you end up in an Emergency Room and then middle of the night emergency surgery for your 10 year old son, this is the place you want to be. The STAFF works to develop a relationship with their patients and PARENTS are included as part of the medical TEAM. I can't tell you how much every single STAFF member left a POSITIVE caring impression with us. They felt like FAMILY, yes even the Attending Surgeons who sat with us and explained every part of his first surgery and second surgery. Seriously, the best place ever for those times when you are below the wellness line.
They saved my baby from a coma or possibly worse. Excellent care from the doctors, nurses, staff, etc. If your baby has an emergency you need to come here. Thank goodness they are here because Meriter has been terrible.
