Great mix of trails. Some bugs. Put a dryer sheet under your hat.
A little nature in the middle of Monona / Madison. Large enough you feel secluded and the sounds of the city are faint. Deer, fox, and muskrat can be seen here.
Gorgeous natural area with lots of wildlife, birds, and Native American mounds! They are 2,000+ year old burial mounds including a small panther/Water Spirit mound and several linear burial mounds- one of which used to be the longest mound in Dane Co at over 700 ft.
A wonderful place to relax in Nature!
Nice place to go wander in the urban wild. Mixture of woods, prairie, and wetlands on the property. There's even a few places where you're surrounded completely by nature and can forget that just beyond the trees and undergrowth are neighborhoods and highways. A couple trails connect to the grounds of Aldo Leopold Nature Center with signs that let you know once you've crossed over. Be kind and mind the rules posted on the signs.
