After observing my cat and checking her vitals, the vet said they would need to try to do an oral exam to see if anything was blocking her airway (to do so they said they needed to sedate her) and that they needed to run blood work as well. They told me to go home and wait for a call, and that I should expect one by 10pm. I went home and waited, as they asked, for a call. By 10:30, I had not heard anything and decided to call back. The receptionist was very polite, but told me they still had not gotten the blood work or oral exam done because other "emergencies" had come in. I asked how much longer it would be as I had to work in the morning, and the receptionist told me at least a couple more hours and they would call me when I could pick her up. They apologized several times about how long everything was taking, and at no time did they inform me that because of the extra time I would be charged more money for this visit, all because they could not find the time to give my cat the tests she needed done.
For regular check-ups and vaccines, I have always had good experiences with UW Veterinary Care. The receptionists are always kind and courteous, and I have had great experiences with the staff who have looked over my cat for the past two years.
I have been here many times ~ no bad experiences, life is not perfect. I come here when we have a serious dilemma, injury or acute illness. I appreciate the fact that you get in your team 1-2 vets and also a few 4yr. Students. We have always left with an accurate diagnosis and a plan, there may need to be a revision but for the most part over the years it is a stay on target plan. I always post the pros and cons, that can be confirmed by past reviews. This visit I am citing, we came in for a luxated lens in a small older dog. I was pleased with the level of care and attention. We formulated a plan with meds and now we are in the waiting period. Our little girl is doing well, seeing improvement ~ not out of the woods. With everything in life we have to consider ~ what is Gods plan. We are happy, the price was affordable, we're in the waiting period. It's all good. Great ophthalmology department, this is the second time we have used the eye doctor. ❤
We took our cat here to be checked on for renal disease. The vet was really informative. He asked about behaviours and broke down what the tests we have had done mean by the numbers. It was pretty pricey, but the information was invaluable. I recommend this place for special needs pets, not just a regular check up as it is pretty pricey, but it is worth it.
If you have other options, I would highly recommend taking your small animal elsewhere for emergency services.
The next day, I took her to a different vet in my hometown area who told me she likely had just consumed something that was working its way through her digestive system or was possibly causing irritation. He prescribed a cat laxative, gave me soft food to give her, and billed me a much more reasonable $70 (granted, this was not on a holiday). She was better within 2 days.
Finally, I was called at about 12:30am and told I could pick my cat up at 1:30am. I arrived at the vet by 1:15am so I could take her home earlier if possible, but I still had to wait until 2am to even get my cat back from the veterinarian working with her. At that point, the vet told me she did not know what was wrong with my cat, but prescribed a $90 pain medication and a $180 anti-nausea medication w/o informing me of the expense of either medication (and neither of which turned out to be necessary). When all was said and done, I waited more than 7 hours and had to pay an $800 bill for them to tell me they did not know what was wrong with my cat and could only recommend an additional $2,000 worth of testing.
The staff is friendly, caring, and thorough. Took our dog for Opthalmology review. Took time to review everything and discussed the findings and course of treatment so it was clear and understandable. Cleared up issues within a month. Communicated findings with our vet after appointment. Totally impressed and would take my pet there again. For the services rendered they were reasonably priced. Was worth the drive for out of towner.
The wonderful doctor's and hospital staff were awesome when they treated my Tanman during his cancer. He passed on March 28 2015. They gave it their all to try and get rid of his cancer.
However, I recently had a horrible experience with emergency care for my cat at UW. On July 4th, she began having trouble breathing and was making a gagging/dry heaving noise. I called in to the clinic, and they told me I could bring her in but that there would automatically be a $120-or-so fee due to it being an emergency examination and on a holiday. I said that was fine, and I brought her in. We got to the clinic at 5:30pm and had to wait until at least 6:30 to even be seen by a student veterinarian. After she came in to see us, she was in and out of the room for another hour while we sat and waited. Finally, at about 7:30, she returned and apologized because there were other "emergencies" that had arrived and they did not consider us an "emergency".
