I would like to send a personal thank you to Dr. Kat and the vet staff. Dr. Kat and her staff went above and beyond for providing the best quality care for my cat PeeBody. I worked with several different clinics, trying to find out what was wrong with my kitty. They were able to diagnosis him and allow him to live a longer, more comfortable life. I am internally grateful and strongly recommend anyone to go to Cat Care Clinic, if you are looking for dedicated, passionate and personal care for your pet, this is the place to go.
That afternoon they called to say the sample had pus in it. They still refused to call it an abscess, instead saying "cancer can cause pus too".
I don't recommend a clinic where the staff can't identify something as common as an abscess.
The next week I got the lab results back. They finally said it looked like an abscess after all. They suggested I schedule an appointment to get it cleaned out, but they wanted to use general anesthesia, and before that they wanted to do blood work to see if my cat was able to withstand anesthesia, even though (in their own words) she seemed strong. The cost would have been about $800.
In hindsight lipoma was not a reasonable explanation, because the bump had been leaking and crusty. (I told them about the leaking and crustiness.) Lipomas don't leak pus. Lipomas also grow slowly, and this bump had appeared suddenly. If they had paid any attention to my description they should have known lipoma was unlikely.
This is the only vet in Madison we trust with our cat. We tried several others, but this is the only clinic we've found with the patience, caring, and expertise to successfully treat any cat, no matter how scared or hurt, without causing any more additional stress than absolutely necessary--on the patient or its owners.
By then the abscess was shrinking on its own, so their "help" was no longer needed. I paid around $300 for examinations, multiple visits, and lab work, and they didn't even do anything helpful.
They had me bring her back on Thursday to do a physical examination. I was prepared to ask them to use local anesthetic and drain the abscess, however they told me it felt like a lipoma instead of an abscess. They wanted to take a needle sample and send it for lab work. I agreed because I believed them about the lipoma. I assumed they'd be experienced.
They did not seem knowledgeable.
My first visit was on a Tuesday, and I said I thought my cat had an abscess. They were not able to examine my cat. (They seemed afraid of her and were unable to get her out of the carrier. I have never seen this at a vet before!) They told me it might be cancer. I said I didn't think it was likely because the bump had appeared suddenly within a few days. They said "we've seen stranger things."
Friendly, attentive staff across the board that seem to genuinely care about the cats that are brought to them. Responsive to concerns (by phone and email and in finding time to see your pet in the clinic) and proactive in follow-up. Highly recommended.
I found out about the Cat Care Clinic through the Madison Chamber and I'm glad I did. Dr. Kat is my cat, Pyewacket's vet and he loves her. It's been nothing but a great experience so far!
