Total bummer. :(
I asked the manager why he doesnt have 2 rather than 1 when it's so busy, he said: "because then we'd have too many people at the pickup counter" - wow, very sad case of non-management. I've taken my daily business to another more customer-friendly & more organized coffee shop on State Street.
Only coffee worth drinking in madison, just trying to save yall time
This store was recently remodeled - whoever planned it might want to go back & take remodeling 101 again.
Went there with the security squad after a long night of holding the club down and ordered 2 rounds of bagels. They were superb. Plus the people working were A+ staff.
On top of all of this, they got my order wrong. I work far enough away where it would have costed me another 15-20 minutes on top of the 20 minutes I spent in line to go back and get it fixed. While it is still delicious - it's not what I ordered (I ordered and paid for something more expensive) and before you say that I took someone else's order, they call you by name and hand you the item when it's ready.
I go here almost everyday, and I love their Vanilla Hazelnut coffee, but today the whole store seemed to be off. There was a 10 person line at one point, which the new layout is not set up to handle, so it was winding almost out the door. During this rush, there was only one cashier working, and while she acknowledged the long line, her pace was slower than I've ever seen in that store. Meanwhile, there was a painfully empty register that one employee looked at wistfully as he put on his apron and got himself a cup of coffee and groggily watched the line grow.
This new concept is perfect. This location is usually fairly busy but they're by no means slow. Food is always good, and they have most of the offerings of a stand-alone Caribou or Einstein.
I've also noticed the food handlers wearing clean gloves will regularly go to the cash register & punch buttons while still wearing the gloves then return to handling food/filling orders w/o changing gloves. Great practice.
Every weekend morning there's a line out the door that barely moves & normally takes over 1/2 hour before reaching the single cashier/single person taking orders.
