Sitting in the Duck Blind is definitely worth it. I do not care about the game very much but when I went on Sunday I couldn't help but be pulled into the game. The food was great and the beer selection was varied!
Worst Concessions EVER!!! I have never experienced such poor concessions at a sporting event. I went to get food twice during the game, stood in line for more than 30 minutes each time. That is RIDICULOUS! The staff seemed to have no clue as to what they are doing. There appeared to be about 15 people working behind the counter, nobody was talking to each other, and mass chaos was on full display. It should not take long to throw hot dogs/brats on a bun, or a hamburger on a bun considering the customers do all of the toppings themselves! Seriously, the food should be FLYING out of the concession stand instead of people waiting 15 minutes to order, only to then go stand in another line for 15+ minutes to get their food.
And, in the condiments area there is no brat mustard despite the fact that the ballpark serves BRATS!!!
On top of the slowness, the food was AWFUL! And, the staff didn't even know what they were making. I had way over cooked/reheated cheese curds, and the beer cheese brat with beer onions was a JOKE! The description of the beer cheese brat is as follows: A brat 'smothered' with beer cheese and topped with 'grilled onions' that have been braised in beer. What did I get? I got a brat on an old, dry bun with about a spoonful of beer cheese on it - no onions. When I asked about the onions, the staff brought out plain, uncooked, white chopped onions and put about a tablespoons worth on my bun. The problem was, I saw them do the SAME EXACT thing to another gentlemen during my first visit to the concession stand - no onions, when he asked, they topped it with chopped, raw, white onions. It's like the staff doesn't even know what they are preparing or how to prepare it. Thai Bacon on a Stick? Awesome - yummy - no stick!
Madison Mallards are a great experience for the family. The tickets are cheap enough that you can leave once it starts getting late, so there's no need to keep the little ones up past bedtime. Although the ball play is definitely not what you would see in the Major Leagues, these players do know what they are doing and will keep you and your family entertained for the night. All of the children's activities throughout the park really make this a great time, especially if you have a child who isn't really interested in the actual baseball.
Overall, the mallards is a wonderful time, and we are excited to go back for more games.
One warning though: the concession stand. Be prepared to wait in a very long line (we missed three whole innings), receive mediocre, rarely warm food, and pay pretty high prices (too high for college league baseball).
A fun family atmosphere. If you are an adult The Duck Blind which was redone this year is the way to go. Better sight lines, views, and seating. A ticket to the game plus all you can eat and drink. Still get there early so you can get good seats. It gets crowded fast especially on weekends. Sit back and watch some college summer baseball.
I enjoyed the game, and some of the other concession areas like the nacho bar and the bbq joint do a much better job. But, if you're looking for good traditional ballpark food - save yourself about $20 by skipping the concessions at a Mallards game and getting something outside of the ballpark before and/or after the game. At this point I think the ballpark is doing the fan base a disservice by even having a concession stand run so poorly. They should just close it down.
Bottom line summary - food prices are too high for what you get, service is extremely slow, service accuracy on delivering what was ordered is below poor, looking up at dismal. I feel I got bait n switched by what was advertised on the menu versus what showed up! Sorry Mallards Concession team, you need to step it up big time. You are embarrassing yourselves.
Best local baseball team! Games are a lot of fun for the whole family. The Duck Blind is a great option if you're able to take advantage of the all you can eat or drink. The Blind is usually packed though, so getting a seat can be difficult.
